Visionary leader of Gymkhana Club - Shammi Silva

The prestigious and exclusive Colombo Gymkhana Club has done extremely well during the last few years under their dynamic leadership of Shammi Silva, leading from the forefront who constantly strives to continue its legacy of excellence.  

Despite the Covid-19 has made a drastic impact on World in all aspect of day to day  

life, the Gymkhana Club chief Shammi’s motivation and perseverance has enabled him along with his able EXCO members to continue the good work towards their predecessor’s vision to make Gymkhana Club the best club in Sri Lanka, despite the setback with the COVID 19 virus affecting every industry. They were able to recommence and continue the halted building refurbishment and new construction work without burdening the membership or without any bank borrowings.  

Due to the rapid growth and popularity, they have received much recognition not only in the city of Colombo, but in the whole country in terms of infrastructure development, expansion and sports, stated a senior Official Spokesman of the Club.  

While they continue to change the club image to become the cynosure of all eyes, they have also preserved the culture and values of the club while progressing considerably to be one of the best clubs in the Asian region.  

A master plan was drawn in the mind of this Shammi Silva for the entire club house later utilized the services of a reputed architectural firm. With the agile support and approval of Committee Members all refurbishments and enhancements are being carried out.  

The last few years saw the management utilizing much of their energy and resources to uplift the structural needs of the club, which has now touched all sports. It is the ‘Sport’ that enabled them push for this rapid growth with a collective effort of all communities of Gymkhana Club. Altogether they have five sporting facilities, which are all bound by unity.  

Shammi Silva, a name synonymous with sports in the Asian region is a talented, hardworking and honest leader whose perseverance has brought him a long way.  

“A man with a clear vision” in any endeavors he undertake, has led by example. The incumbent President of Sri Lanka Cricket, Director of the International Cricket Council, Director of the Asian Cricket Council and Chairman of Colombo Gymkhana Club (Colombo Cricket Club, CH&FC and Queens Club).  

He has also held the following prestigious appointments such as Treasurer of Sri Lanka Cricket from 2016-2017 and also played first class cricket in Sri Lanka, captained Colombo Cricket Club in 1984-1985 and also captained the 1st XI cricket team of Nalanda College, Colombo. A.N.
