Rezny, a sports promoter in Kandy

M.A.R.M.Rezny attached to the Department of Education,Kandy as an in service adviser in sports is serving the sports loving students of Kandy schools.

According to him the programmes they have arranged had to cancel due to Covild– 19 epidemic and everything is standstill.

They will commence the sports programmes as soon as the country comes to normal. Rezny had his primary education at K/Jabbar Central College and K/jameed Azhar Central College Udatalawinna and had his secondary education at St.Sylvesters’ College, Kandy where he improved his sports abilities in athletics, volleyball and boxing. He excelled in athletics and placed first in high jump event at the Public Schools Meet in 1984 and won his weight category at the L.V.Jayaweera Boxing Meet in the same year. He learnt boxing under Derick Gunasinghe and Rezny is also a talented volleyball player who represented the school volleyball team and the Kandy District volleyball team in mid eightees.

He was a sports teacher at Zahira College, Katugastota, Zahira and Hatale schools in Panwila before joining the Department of Education.

At present he is coaching boxing at Azhar school, Akurana and Zahira College, Katugastota and has produced outstanding boxers like Fazan Mohammed of Azhar College who won his weight class at Stubs Shield meet and N.Akram of Zahira College who won his weight class at the same meet. During his 10 years service at the Department of Education he was involved in organizing Annual Sports Meets in the province and soccer, cricket, netball tournaments. His Ambition is to promote sports among boys and girls in Kandy district and bring them to national and international levels.
