The Sri Lanka Basketball Federation (SLBF) set up a long standing and much needed basketball backstop in the vicinity of Torrington recently to facilitate their players for training without any hindrance.
Amal Edirisooriya, Director General, Ministry of Sports, readily facilitated the release of two areas to set up an indoor and outdoor basketball court for the backstop on the request of Aelian Gunawardene, President of the SLBF. According to SLBF sources, these backstop were provided by the world governing body -FIBA were kept in storage for quite some time without utilising.
“These two facilities will be a tremendous boost for basketball where the SLBF can finally have a location to call its own home court and allow the pool players to practice as and when they feel like it even outside the training times allocated,” said Gunawardene. (AN)
