Sithum Nimalka Kumara a cricketing star in the making

Right hand top order batsman, right arm medium pace bowler close in specialist fielder, all rounder, coloursman, vice captain of the team and Football Volleyball and Elle player Bellana Mesthrige Don Sithum Nimalka Kumara has brought honour and fame to his Alma Mater Piliyandala Central College. He was born on 24th July 2002 and was admitted to the Primary Section of the school in 2008 and his first class teacher was Mrs. Wickrama.

As Sithum showed keenness in cricket from his smaller days his parents Upul Nishantha and Nimali Ekanayake admitted their son to Piliyandala Town Club Cricket Academy at the age of seven years and he came under Bimal Amarasinghe for two years and from there he was drafted to the cricket academy of Nondescripts Cricket Club Colombo and he came under Thilak de Silva and he was with them till 2019.

Sithum played for the NCC Academy under 13 cricket team and he represented them at the Mercantile Cricket Association Tournament and in five matches he scored 220 runs with a top score of 75 runs. In 2017 he represented the NCC in the Division Three Daily News Trophy Tournament in 2017 and in four outings he passed the 170 run mark with two fifties. He made an under 16 tour of Bangalore, India with his Academy Team and it was a fine exposure for him.

In the mean time as an under 13 player in 2012 he got selected to the school Division One team and in his first year itself he scored 150 runs with a fifty and in his second year he was the Vice Captain and scored 175 runs with two half centuries and his coach was Bimal Amarasinghe. His first year in the under 15 was in 2014 and he passed 200 runs with two half centuries and in the following year he scored 230 runs with three fifties and captured 15 scalps. .

His first year in the under 17 was in 2016 and he scored 220 runs with two fifties and his coach was former Cambrian Cricketer Eranga Gunaratne. In his final year in the under 17 he passed the 250 run mark with three half centuries. As an under 17 player he was selected to the first eleven cricket pool. He represented the Second Eleven Team for three years and in 2020 he was selected for the First Eleven Team and he notched up more than 500 runs with two fifties and grabbed 50 wickets with two ten wicket hauls and two five wicket hauls and his coach is Eranga Gunaratne. Playing in the 2020 Big Match against their arch rivals Taxila Central he scored 75 runs and earned the Best Batsman’s Award. This season he scored 110 runs against Asoka Vidyalaya and in the Limited Over Cricket Tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association he collected 220 runs with a fifty and captured 10 wickets and Centralians came up to the Best 16 Teams and his Captain is Ushan Deemantha and his Prefect of Games is Ashley Karunaratne and Master in Charge is Aruna Liyanage and his Principal Darshana Udawatte is always supportive . In addition he played for the Inter House Tournaments of the school in Soccer, Volleyball and Elle.
