Ransilu Jayathillake - an international medallist in powerlifting

Thirty-four-year-old Ransilu Jayathillake, an old boy of Kingswood College, is one of the finest powerifting champions produced by Sri Lanka.

He started his career in 1993 at the age of seven under the coaching of his father Mothilal Jayathillake, former champion powerlifter for many decades.

Ransilu won the Open National Championship at the age of 14 in 2001 and is currently ranked seventh in the World Rankings.

He was involved in many national and international contests and is unbeaten since 2002 up-to now and was awarded national colors on more than 30 occasions.

He is the first and only Sri Lankan to lift beyond 700kgs. He won a Gold Medal in the first ever Youth Commonwealth Games held in Australia in 2014.

He won a Silver Medal at the Asian Junior Championships in Thailand in 2002 and a Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Championship in Samoa in 2006.

He has won three Silver Medals at the South Asian Games in 2004, 2006 and 2010 in Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh respectively.

He was able to win a Bronze Medal at the World Junior Championships in Taiwan in 2002 and a Silver Medal at the World Junior Championships in 2003 in New Delhi, India.

He won a Silver Medal at the Asian Junior Championships in 2002 in Indonesia, Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Championship in Canada in 2015 and a Gold Medal at the Singapore Open Grand Prix in 2014 and 2015.

He also won a Gold Medal at the Asian Championships in Indonesia in 2016, Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Championships in South Africa in 2017 and a Silver Medal at the Asian Championships in India in 2018.

He won a Silver Medal at the Asian Championships in Mongolia in 2018, Silver Medal at the Asia Oceania Championship in Australia in 2019 and a Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Championships in Canada in 2019.

Ransilu has created more than 50 Sri Lankan records from 2001 to date. In 2016 he was placed 16th at the World Powerlifting Championships in the US, seventh in Belarus in 2017, ninth in Canada in 2018 and 14th place In Sweden in 2019.
