Seventeen year old, Kavindu Rashmika a Grade Eleven student of Lexicon International School,Kandy is an outstanding athlete and he has been involved in athletics since 2016 when he was 12 years old under the coaching of Lalith Ratnayake, who had the distinction of winning a bronze Medal for Sri Lanka at the South Asian Athletic Championship held in Madras,India in the year 1995. Kavindu Rashmika won the Under 16 – 800 Metres setting a new record of one minute 59.40 seconds at the last Junior Nationals erasing the existing record of one minute. 59.83 S. set by Nuwan Dananjaya of Bereverts College, Ampitiya in the year 2017. Kavindu participated at the Junior John Tarbat Athletic Meet held in 2018 at the Anuradhapura Public Grounds and secured the first place in the Under 15 – 800 metre event and got the second place at the 400 Metre Race at the same athletic meet.
After his outstanding achievements , the school authorities awarded him a scholarship to continue with his free education and he further improved his athletic ability. Kavindu Rashmika participated at many athletic meets in the year 2019 but in 2020 due to the Covid epidemic he was curtailed from undergoing his athletic practices and he was prevented from participating in many meets as he could not travel from district to district.
Kavindu Rashmika is a brilliant student in Mathemetics and his intention is to continue his higher studies while doing Athletics for which he is practising at the moment in a ground near his house. He is much grateful to the Director of the School, the Principal, P.M.Damunupola and the Administrator, T.B.Damunupola for the encouragement given to him by awarding a scholarship to improve his studies as well as assisting him to improve his sports career.
His main ambition is to do well in studies during his school career while improving his athlitic ability to participate at International Meets to bring fame to the country.
