Hashini Ishara excellent athlete and netball player

Sri Lanka Schools netball player, athlete and basketball player Akuranaga Hashini Ishara Dharmasiri has brought honour and glory to her school Holy Family Convent Kurunegala and her motherland. She was born on 26th April 2001 and was admitted to the Grade One of her neighbouring school Mahinda Vidyalaya Gatuwana in 2007 and her first class teacher was Mrs. Irene Chandralatha. From Grade One to Grade Five she did not take any interest in sports and when she was in Grade Six she participated in the School Inter House Annual Sports Meet and came first in 100 and third in 800 metres events and in the same year she participated in the Netball Tournament and her team were victorious and her Sports teacher was Mrs. Irene Chandralatha.

In 2015 her parents Nimal Dharmasiri and Pushpa Damayanthi admitted their daughter to Holy Family Convent Kurunegala in the hope for a sound education and to continue in sports and the then Principal was Rev. Sister Crisilda. Same year she attended netball practices under Mrs. Amalka and Anand Wannithilake and in the following year her school won the Divisional, Zonal, District and Provincial Tournaments and the National Schools Championship and the All Island Milo Championship and in 2017 they won the All Island Schools Tournament and they were the Milo Runners Up and in 2018 too they were the Milo Runners Up and National Schools Champions after winning all the lower tournaments.

Then in 2018 they swept the lower tournaments and won the Sri Lanka Schools under 20 Championship. With all these performances under her belt she was a unanimous choice for the Sri Lanka Schools Girls Team to Melbourne, Australia for the Waverly Tournament and Sri Lanka lasses became 13th out of 25 countries and it was a fine exposure for Hashini and her team mates. After returning from Australia she represented her house team and she captained the team and her house emerged Champions. She went on to captain her house team and in 2018 she carried away the Best Players Award. In 2019 she toured Malaysia with her school Netball Team .

In the mean time she continued to take part in the School Athletic Meets annually from Grade Eight to Thirteen and her events were 100, 200 and 400 metre races and she won places and in Basketball too she was a active member of her house and there too she was adjudged the Best Player in this context her Coaches, Teachers in Charge from time to time and the Principal Rev Sister were supportive of her to achieve success.
