Four Sri Lankans are expected to take part in the Asian Continental Chess Championship 2021, which begins today.
This tournament will be conducted with Hybrid Format, using the Tornelo Platform. The event is conducted by the Asian Chess Federation according to the Swiss System in nine rounds and will be handled from the ACF Headquarters in UAE.
The Sri Lankan players will be competing from the CFSL Headquarters in Delkada, Nugegoda.
The Sri Lanka Team will be led by Ranindu Liyanage together with three other talented players Manuja Doluweera, Susal de Silva and Theekshana Denuwan.
This is the most prestigious individual chess tournament in Asia and over 80 chess players from 16 Asian countries have already registered to play in the event.
The Asian Chess Federation has offered US$ 16,000 as cash awards for the winners.
The top eight players of this event will qualify to play in the FIDE Chess World Cup to be held in Russia in July 2021. (D.R)
