The Sports Ministry is set to take a final decision on Friday, whether to go ahead with Sri Lanka Football (SLF) Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is scheduled for June 1 at the BMICH in Colombo.
With the Government's decision to extend the prevailing lockdown till June 7, Sports Ministry officials have decided to meet Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa to discuss whether they could proceed with the AGM as scheduled.
As most of the voters representing the leagues will find it difficult to reach Colombo due to travel restrictions, SLF sources said they have made a request to the Sports Ministry to facilitate and grant the necessary approval for those respective members to travel to Colombo for the AGM during the lockdown. "As of now it is fixed for June 1. But further extension of the lockdown has made us reconsider on the date,” Director General, Sports Ministry, Amal Edirisooriya told the Daily News yesterday.
“We are to meet the Sports Minister on Friday and a final decision will be taken then.”
"SLF had made a request to take adequate steps (curfew passes) to bring the voters to Colombo, which we are to finalise on the same day with the Minister," he added
The football election will be conducted through a secret ballot.
