Sri Lankan FIDE Master Susal de Silva beat Mongolian higher rated FIDE Master Amartuvshin Ganzorig (2,350) to advance to the sixth-round of the Asian Continental Hybrid Chess Championships, which continued yesterday.
With this win, Susal was able to collect three points to finish just one point behind the eight high-rank leaders and one International Master with four points each.
Susal moved from 39th rank to 26th with this win and is expected to play Chinese International Master Lou Yiping in the sixth-round. Meanwhile, Minul Doluweera and Theekshana Denuwan also had a good day where they beat the lower rated Tenuunbold Battulga (1,753) of Mongolia and Romero Gladimir Chester (1,519) of the Philippines convincingly.
However, the national champion Ranindu Liyanage lost to Asuela Ellan (2,248) of the Philippines in the fifth-round. Doluweera is now ranked 55 while Theekshana and Raninidu are in 64th and 67th rank respectively after the fifth-round.
