Desandhi ahead in U-16 Chess Tourney

Desandhi Gamage of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya took an early lead on the opening day of the Online Under-16 Girls’ Youth Rapid Chess Championship 2021, which began yesterday.

Desandhi beat K. T. S. Karannagoda, H. G. K. G. Amarathunga, Dulinma Rathnayake, and Chanthuli de Silva to come on top.

Meanwhile in the second position is Piyumi Amarathunga who beat Lethmini Wellala, Oneli Weerawardana, Nemindi Ramayanake, and D. A. D. T. Srilal.

Women’s national team players Ashvini Pavalachandran and Esandi Newansa shared the third position on the ranking table with fewer tie-breaking points.

The top-five rankings: 1. Desandhi Gamage (Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya), 2. Piyumi Amarathunga (JMC College International), 3. Ashvini Pavalachandran (Wycherley International School), 4. Esandi Newansa (Dharmasoka College), 5. Chanthuli de Silva (Anula Vidyalaya).
