Harshani Nadeeshani a proud product of Dankotuwa Balika

Athlete, School Elle Captain, Volleyball Player and Karate Black Belt Third Dan holder and swimmer Amaradura Harshani Nadeeshani de Silva has brought honour and glory to her Alma Mater Dankotuwa Balika Vidyalaya and her work place Slimline, Pannala. She was born on 22nd December 1994 and firstly she was admitted to Chandrarathna Maha Vidyalaya Kelaniya in 2000.

She participated at the School Inter House Sports Meets in Grade Threeand Four in 50 and 100 metres and swept the board and then in 2004 she was drafted to Nalawalana Junior School Makandura and there she took up to Elle and Volleyball and at the Inter House Elle under 15 tournament her House won and took part at the District Tournament and they were the runners up and in the following year she captained the team and they were the runners up . In the mean time she represented her house at the Inter House Volleyball Tournaments and in the Divisional Tournaments and they were the runners up for two years.

Then in 2011 she shifted to Balika Vidyalaya Dankotuwa and the then Principal was Rev. Sister Beatrice and in the same year her mother Mrs. Irangani Perera encouraged her daughter to take up to Karate and by that time her father Udayashantha de Silva had died and in the same year she commenced karate under their coach Asela Sumith Lasantha. In the mean time she participated for the Inter House Swimming Meet and became the Best Swimmer and she did 50 and 100 metre Free Style Events and her Teacher in Charge of Swimming was Mrs. Guneththi.

Her first attempt in Karate was Puttalam District Do Karate Meet in 2012 and she was un successful and in the same year in another District Meet she won a Gold Medal and another Gold at the Provincial in Kumite and in the same year in the National Federation meet she won a Gold for Kumite In 2013 at the District Meet she won a Bronze Medal for Kumite and came third in the Provincial Meet and followed it up with another two Golds at the District Meet in Kumite and Kata and in the Provincial Meet she won a Bronze at the All Island Meet.

In 2014 at the District Meet she won a Gold in Kumite while at the Provincial Meet she grabbed a Silver and she participated at the National Meet conducted by Ministry of Sports and in the same year prior to the National Festival Meet she won a Gold and a Silver at the District and Provincial Tournaments respectively in Kumite. and at the Karate Do Association Meet she got Golds for Kumite and Kata. In the following year she won Golds for Kumite and Kata . Then in the Federation District Meet she got a Gold and in the Provincial too she got a Gold for Kumite and Bronze for Kata and in the Karate Do Association Meet she won Golds for Kumite and Kata and she was adjudged as the Best Karateka of the Year 2015. Then in 2016 at the Federation, District Meet she won Golds for Kata and Kumite and in the National Sports Festival District Meet she came third and in the 2017 Federation District Meet she was first in District and Provincial and third in the Nationals in Kumite and with all these performances and experience under her belt she was selected for the Sri Lanka National Kumite Team in 2017.

In 2018 at the District Meet she won a Gold for Kumite and a Silver at the NWP Meet and in the Nationals she won a Silver in Kumite and in 2019 she won a Gold at the District Meet and a Silver at the NWP Meet in Kumite and she won another Gold at the Karate Do Federation Meet and in the same year she won a Gold at the District Meet and a Silver at the NWP Meet in Kumite.

She joined Slimline, Pannala after leaving school with an unblemished karate career and since then the authorities at her working place are helping her in numerous ways which enabled her to come up the ladder.
