Women’s cricketer Nimeshika does St Anthony’s Girls School proud

H.M.Nimeshika Bandara Seneviratne, a Grade 11 student of St.Anthony’s Girls School, Katugastota is an outstanding cricketer who started her cricket career under veteran Level II Cricket Coach, Susantha Basnayake in the Year 2015. He taught her the basics of Batting, Bowling and Fielding at a very young age and she learnt wicket keeping in addition to batting. But she got an opportunity to play for the School only in the year 2017 for the first time in the girls schools tournament and claimed 4 wickets for 25 runs against Maliyadeva Girls School, Kurunegala. In 2018 at the girls school Cricket tournament conducted by the Womens’ Cricket Association she scored 33 runs against DS Senanayake Vidyalaya, Kurunegala as a right hand batswoman. She played in the Inter District Cricket tournament and her School St. Anthonys’ became Inter District and Provincial Champions from 2014 to 2019, except the year 2015 when they became Runners-up at the tournament and Nimeshika joined the team only in the year 2017.

Nimeshika was selected to the Kandy District Ladies Cricket team in the year 2019 under the Captaincy of Shini Senaratne for her creditable performances and they played in the Inter District Tournament which they won several times. She is thankful to her coach Susantha Basnayake and the teacher-in-charge Wasanthi Jinadasa for their guidance and she intends to continue playing cricket and she is a bright student as well. She is grateful to her parents for the support given to her.
