Sri Lanka Junior National Volleyball Player Athlete and Football Player Balasuriyage Don Rishi Nethra Balasuruya brought honour and fame to her Alma Mater Lumbini College, Colombo. Rishi Nethra commenced her schooling at Kiriwaththuduwa Vidyalaya and her first class teacher was Mrs. Sriya and competing in the School Inter House Sports Meet she won the high jump, 60 and 75 metres and she was the Under 9 Champion. But she was unsuccessful at the Divisional Meet and in 2012 she shifted to Mahinda Rajapakse Vidyalaya Homagama and at the Inter House Sports Meet she came first in Long Jump and Putt Shot.

In the mean time she joined Charm Villa Academy and came under Karunarathna Wickramasinghe and did swimming and volleyball for about two years and Mr. Wickramasinghe organized an under 12 Volleyball Tournament among Sri Jayawardenepura, Kaduwela, Moratuwa, Homagama, Padukka and she was the captain of the Homagama team and they emerged Champions and out of 150 players a pool of 30 players including her were selected With the blessings of her parents Amala Chandrabalasuiya and Mrs. Rohini Malkanthi who is a Pre School Teacher in Italy she joined Lumbini in 2014 and came under Ajantha Jayamanne the MIC and the coach of Lumbini. In 2015 participating in the Divisional, Zonal and District under 14 tournament they won but lost in the Provincial Tournament. Participating in the All Island under 14 tournament Lumbini clinched the Championship and she captained the team and carried away the Best Attacker’s Award. In 2016 under 15 tournament she captained the team and lost in the Quarter Finals and in 2016 she was selected for the Kreeda Shakthi Pool and from the District selection she was selected to the All Island Junior Pool under Mrs. Rangika Mahawatte and she joined Kreeda Shakthi Club at Torrington and was a member of the Dialog Youth National Team and from 2016 to date she is the captain and in 2019 Youth Volleyball Championship her team was the second and she received a Cash Award.

Lumbini participated in the under 19 Open Volleyball Tournament organized by Royal College Colombo annually and they were the Champions under Uthpala Nethmini and Rishi Nethra was adjudged the Best Player and in the DSI Tournament they were the District Champions and in 2018 Royal College Tournament they were the under 19 Champions and she was adjudged the Best Attacker of the tournament and in the Munchee Trophy too they were the District Champions and she captained the team. With these performances under her belt she was selected for the Junior National Team and toured Vietnam in 2018 and she was the “Baby of the Touring Team” and 15 teams participated and Sri Lanka came thirteenth.

In the same year in the festival games they were District champions and she was awarded a Medal and Cash. And at the DSI Tournament they came third and in that year at the Kreeda Shakthi she captained the District and got the third place. Under Deepal Alwis in 2019. At the Inter Schools Meet they came third and in DSI they were fourth and in the Festival Tournament Western Province won and she captained and got a Cash Award and a Medal.

Also she got selected for the SAF Games and the Senior Nationals and she was also selected for the 2020 National team for the Hong Kong tour and she was awarded Volleyball Colours from the school. In 2017 and 2018 representing the school in the under 19 football team under Mr. Lalith they won the Divisional, Zonal, District, Provincial tournaments and came up to Quarter Finals.

In Athletics she won the Putt Shot, Long Jump and Discus throw and the school team won the District Tournament. She took part in the Open Air Rifle Meet in All Island Level in 2016 and 2017.

In the Inter House Level too she participated in all these games. In this context the Principals K. G. Wimalasena, and later Oshara Panditharathne, Deputy Principal Sampath Gunarathne, Mrs. Menaka Kothalawala, Rangika Mahawatta her parents Kamal Balasuriya and Rohini Malkanthi helped her to achieve success.
