Seshan Ekanayake does Dharmaraja proud

E.M. Seshan Ekanayake, an outstanding Athlete as well as a talented football player who was admitted to Dharmaraja College, Kandy in the year 2006 and ended up his School career in 2019 after his GCE (A/L) examination. He is residing near the Nuwara Wela Municipal Playground which is situated at Ampitiya, Kandy. He started Long distance Running and playing Football at the age of 10 years as he was able to practice both games in this particular playground.

In Football he was coached by K. Konara who was an International football player.He started playing football at his school, Dharmaraja College, Kandy under the coaching of G.S. Piyatissa, W.A. Priyantha, and R.G. Wijewardena, all three coaches were qualified in football.

Seshan had the opportunity to captain the football team of the school in the under 15 and the senior football team and simultaneously he represented the Sisu Sports Club Junior Football Championship organized by the Kandy Municipal Council. He started his football career at a very young age and led the victorious Dharmaraja College under 15 football team in 2013. In the following year (2014) the college became third at the National Youth Championship under the leadership of Seshan and he was adjudged the Best Football Player in the tourney.

In the year 2016 again he won the Best Player’s Cup at the soccer tournament held in connection with the National Youth Festival at the Aruppola Municipal Playground, Kandy.

In the following year he represented his school at the Secretaries Futsal Soccer Tournament and again he was adjudged the Best Player for the third time in his football career. At the football tournament held in connection with the Kreeda Shakthi Programme in 2018 and 2019 his school, Dharmaraja College became Runners-up at the Inter District Meet and at the National Sports Festival.

He started his athletic career at the age of eleven in school winning 100 M. and 200M. races and in the upper classes he participated at the long distance races such as 1500M. and 5000M. at House level. He developed his long distance running when he came first in the All Island Road Race for the third successive year from 2017 to 2019 to win the Gen. Nalin Angammana Memorial Trophy.

He is intending to continue athletics as well as his pet game football and he is training hard to become a National football player and he is hoping to play professional football in Europe in future and his favourite soccer player is Neymar JR of Brazil. Seshan is thankful to his coaches and his father who is encouraging him at all times.
