Sachini outstanding cricketer of St Anthony’s Girls School

Sachini Dayaratne is an outstanding cricketer of St.Anthony’s Girls School,Kandy who is the Captain of the School Cricket team and she got the captaincy last year taking over from the former Captain Saduni Weerasinghe , a fine all-round cricketer of the school.

Sachini started her cricket career in 2012 under the coaching of Susantha Basnayake, a level II Cricket Coach. She played soft ball as well as Leather ball cricket from the year 2012 and she claimed 5 wickets for 20 runs against Pindeniya Central School, at the All Island Division II Cricket tournament organized by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.

Sachini was adjudged the Best Woman Cricketer in 2016 and 2017 at the Cricket tournament organized by the Depaartment of Education,Kandy.

She scored 100 runs in four matches with the highest score being 40 runs against Galewela Central School in 2016 while again she scored 120 runs in the four matches and the highest being 38 runs against Mahamaya Girls School,Kandy in 2017. In addition she claimed 5 wickets for 30 runs also against Mahamaya Girls School at the Cricket Tournament.

In 2018 she was adjudged the Best Player in the ‘Big Match’ against Nugawela Central when she scored 47 runs and she was selected to the Development Squad of Sri Lanka Cricket in 2018.

After that she scored her first Century in a hard ball match against Nuwara Eliya District when she scored 102 and Sachini went up on the ladder of success when she scored a fine double in a Division two Tournament match when she scored 47 runs and bagged 4 wickets against Pelawatte Navodya Vidyalaya in 2019.

She had an all-round performance against Maliyadeva Girls School,Kurunegala and scored 47 runs and claimed 4 wickets for35 runs and she is a right hand batswoman and a right-arm off-spinner. Sachini led her side to become third in the Girls Schools Cricket tournament and received a promotion to play in the Division one Girls Tournament from 2019 and she is thankful to her Coach Susantha Basnayake and the Teacher-in-charge Wasanthi Jinadasa for the guidance given to her.
