The incumbent President of Sri Lanka Baseball, Major (Rtd.) Nissanka Senadhipathi is to seek the necessary approval from the Sports Ministry to restart the game by having training programmes and playing matches with immediate effect.
Major (Rtd.) Nissanka Senadhipathi addressing the committee after his appointment was very focused and put forward his major plans to revamp the sport.
He wanted to develop the sport locally and believes that this sport can turn out to be one of the top sporting events in the country, given the fact that it is a similar sport to cricket and elle. Sri Lanka took part in the Asian Games and Asian Championships and continue to improve in the Asian region. The National under 12 and18 teams have performed creditably at the international level with lot of promise. Their current Sri Lanka National team is ranked eighth in Asian region and 37th in the world ranking.
Sri Lanka’s world ranking improved with their comprehensive win over the Pakistan national team at the West Asia Baseball Cup while they were ranked 27th in the world in 2019.
