Maleesha Ravishan - volleyball player par excellence

Sri Lanka Junior Volleyball Player, Member of the Nattandiya V – Six Volleyball Club Jayawardene Rajage Maleesha Ravishan Jayawardene brought honour and fame to his Alma Mater Dammissara Madya Maha Vidyalaya, Nattandiya with his deeds on the volleyball court

Maleesha was admitted to Sugathananada Maha Vidyalaya, Madampe in 2006 and his first class teacher was Mrs. Yamuna Malkanthi. Whilst at Sugathananda he participated in High Jump and 100 metres and came first and second in 200 metres.

From there he shifted to Senanayake national School, Madampe in 2013 and commenced Volleyball under Charles Tillekeratne and representing the under 13 team his school won the Divisional, Zonal, District and Provincial and All Island DSI Tournament and Maleesha was adjudged as the Best Setter in 2014. His school won the Lower Tournament and finally they won the All Island Championship in under 15 age group. Maleesha joined Dammissara Vidyalaya in 2014 and came under the Prefect of Games and PTI and Senior Coach Keerthi Jayasekera and Junior Coach Channa Jayasekera. There too they won the Lower Grade Tournaments and in the All Island DSI tourney they were the Runners Up in under 17 and in the following year they swept the board in all Minor Tournaments and became the All Island Champions in 2018.

In 2019 he represented the under 19 team and they won all the tournaments including the DSI Tournament and Maleesha carried away the All Island Best Setter Award.

He represented the Joseph Vaz Volleyball Club and they won the Janadhipathi Gold Championship and the Coach was Mr. Indika and once again Maleesha was adjudged as the Best All Island Setter. He was selected to the Sri Lanka under 19 Youth Team in 2017 and toured Myanmar and followed by another tour to Bahrain with the Sri Lanka Junior Volleyball Team and his school was rewarded with a tour to Malaysia in 2017 for winning the All Island DSI Trophy and it was a fine exposure for the whole Dammissara Team.

In addition he is a member of the Nattandiya – V – Six Volleyball Club and the team is coached by Sanju Sihina who is the coach cum player.

In this context his Principal Anil Pushpakumara, the Deputy Principal Nilmini Rodrigo the two coaches were very supportive of him at all times and his parents Indika Nayanananda and Asha Shyamali are always encouraging him
