Kavindu Rashmika, Grade II student of Lexicon International School,Kandy is an outstanding Athlete and a bright student of the School. He started Athletics when he was very young under veteran Athletic Coach,Lalith Bandara who won a Bronze Medal at the South Asian Games in the past. Under the instructions of his coach Kavindu improved his Athletics day by day and every year he won the 100 & 200 Metre races in his age group for the Zeus House at the Annual Sports meet of the School. In the year 2018 at the Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletic Meet held at Anuradhapura Public Grounds he won the 800 metre race and was placed third in the 400 metre race and this was the first time a student of this school achieved a victory of this nature.

Kavindu was awarded a Scholarship by the Lexicon International School for his outstanding performances and he continued his studies as well as athletics very successfully. After this his Coach Lalith Bandara started his training with a new Schedule mixed with weight training and he became much stronger and he won the Under 16, 800 metre race with a time of one minute.59 Seconds. erasing the existing Record set by Dananjaya Bulugahapitiya at the Junior Nationals conducted by the Sri Lanka Athletic Association held at the Sugathdasa Stadium in the year 2019. In the same year at the National Schools Athletic Meet organized by the Schools Athletic Association held at Sugathadasa Stadium Kavindu came a close second to M.J.S. Jayasinghe of Walala Central ,Kandy and third place was secured by Ravindu Chirath of St Benedicts College,Kotahena. All three Athletes finished the Race together but the verdict was given to M.J.S. Jayasinghe of Walala Central.

This year Athletic practices were not held due to the preparations for the GCE(OL) Exam by the School. Kavindu’s ambition is to be a Doctor and he intends to continue his Athletics to win a Medal for his country in Olympics in future. He is thankful to his Coach,Lalith Bandara, his School Principal, Mrs.P.M.Damunupola and the Administrator of the School, T.B.Damunupola (former Principal of Ananda College, and Dharmaraja College,) for their guidance and to his parents for their support .
