JudokaYemina Rifaz does Girls High School proud

Yemina Rifaz, a Grade.13 student of Girls High School,Kandy is an outstanding Judoka She started taking part in Judo at the age of 11 years under the coaches, Shama Priyadharshanie Wickremage and Namal Rajasinghe.

After training hard for four to five hours daily, she was selected to participate at the International Olympiad held in Lucknow,India in the year 2015 for the first time as a 13 year old child and secured the second place competing in the 48 Kg. Weight Class But she did not stop at that she continued participating in Judo tournaments.

In 2016 she participated at the Children of Asia Games held in Yukutsk, Russia without success but gained more experience out of this tournament.

In the same year(2016) she got an opportunity to win the First Local Judo title at the All Island Contest held at Jayathillake Indoor Stadium, Nawalapitiya and she won both 63 Kg.Class and Open Judo titles.

In 2017 Yemina participated at the Youth Commonwealth Games held in Bahamas in light weight class of 57Kg.and she ended up in fourth place but she was satisfied with the experience she gained from this tournament.

Again in the same year she was successful when she won both 63Kg. Class and Open Judo titles which was held in Torrington Indoor Stadium, Colombo.

The year 2018 was a successful year for Yemina who won the National Judo Championship as well as the 44th National Games titles and both tournaments were held at Jayathillake Sports Stadium, Nawalapitiya.

In the same year(2018) she participated at the North University of Bangkok Judo tournaments and also at the South Asia Judo Championship and gained much more experience. In 2019 she won her weight class(63Kg.) in both All Island and National games and in the same year she was selected again to participate at the North University of Bangkok Judo Championship and she was placed fourth.

In the same year she won a Bronze Medal at the SAF Games held in Kathmandu, India and she assures that this achievement will her to win a Medal for Sri Lanka l at the Asian games and her main aim is to participate in Judo tournament at the Olympics too.

Her ambition is to be a Lawyer in the future and she is thankful to her parents and family members and her Judo Coaches for the guidance and support given to her as well as the Principal of Girls High School,Kandy Malkanthi Abeygunasekera and Prefect of Games,Thanuja Gunasinghe for encouraging her in the game of Judo at all times
