Hashani Madushika excels in athletics, rugby and Taekwondo

Sri Lanka Junior Ruggerite, School Games Captain, Athlete, Sri Lanka Junior Taekwondo Poolist Godapitiya Arachchilage Hashani Madushika brought honour and fame to her motherland and her Alma Mater National School Dehiowita. Hashani commenced her schooling at Buddhist Primary School Dehiowita when Rohana Gamage was at the helm of the school and her first class teacher was Mrs. Senadeera. There were no sports activities in this school. In 2012 she joined the Grade Six of National School Dehiowita.

She attended athletic practices in the same year under Mr. Sanjeewa and did Putt Shot, Discus throw and Javelin throw at the Inter House Annual Sports Meet in 2012. From this year up to 2019 she swept the board in these three events with ease at the school sports meet and she was the Athletic Champion too and perhaps it may be a record for her school

. In the mean time she won the Divisional and Zonal meets in her events comfortably. These performances too may be a record for Divisional and Zonal Meets. Though she won her events she could not come up to expectations in the Provincial Meets and only in 2015 Provincial Meet she came fourth in Putt Shot and she was the Games Captain in 2015 2017 and 2018. She was awarded school colours.

In addition to athletics she did Rugger and in 2012 she came under Dishantha Munasinghe and got selected to the team as the Centre and her school were the Runners Up in Bowl Championship and in 2014 her school were the Runners Up in All Island tournament Her school were the Runners Up in the All Island in 2015 up to 2019 and they were the Cup Champions for all age groups continuously. She Captained the school team from 2016 to 2019. Her school participated in the Inter Club Under 20 Championship and they were the Bowl Runners Up and she led the team and with these performances under her belt she was selected to the under 18 Asian Sevens Tournament in Dubai in 2019 and out of 12 teams they ended up seventh and she was awarded Junior and School Colours.

In 2018 she took up to Taekwondo under P. S. Patabandige and Teacher in Charge was Mrs. Piumi Nelumika and competing in the under 15 age group in 55/59 lbs Light Middle All Island Meet she won a Gold Medal and in 2017 under 20 same age she won a Bronze and in 2018 in the same age group and same weight she won a Silver Medal and at her school meet in 55/59 lbs she won a Gold Medal and was awarded School Colours. In 2017 participating in the National Schools Federation Meet in 53/57 lbs weight she won a Bronze. With these performances she was selected for the Thailand Tour of 2019 and due to injury she missed the tour. In this context the Principal Rohana Gamage (jnr) PoG Neomal Ranaweera sports teachers Mrs. Kalani Abegunawardene and Mrs. Patricia Fernando and Deputy Principal A. K. Robinson were very supportive and her parents Priyantha Udayakumara and S. A.C. D. Pathmalatha were behind her success at all times.
