Yohan of Thurstan a fine all round performance

Yohan Liyanage of Thurstan College Colombo turned in a fine all-round performance in the Under-19 Division One inter School Cricket (Two day) tournament of the 2019/20 season conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.

Hiniduma Liyanage Yohan was born on 27th December 2000 in Colombo. He attended President's College Kotte in 2005. He started at Sanath Jayasooriya Cricket foundation under his coach Fazie Anass in 2010. He began his school cricket career from President's College Kotte in 2010 under school first coach Susil Ananda. He represented the school under 13 Cricket team from 2010 to 2013. He showed all-round performances.

He represented the college under 15 team in 2014 and 2015. He represented Colombo district Cricket team in the Prima Champions Trophy district tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket. He represented the College under 17 team in 2016 and he represented the college first XI team as a fresher. He scored over 400 runs with 2 half centuries.

He sat the O/L exam in 2016 and joined Thurstan College Colombo in 2017. He sat the A/L exam in Art stream in 2019. He represented the college under 17 team and he scored more than 300 runs with three half centuries and claimed 18 wickets.

He represented Thurstan first XI team as a fresher in the season of 2017/18. He scored more than 400 runs and he claimed 14 wickets. He represented the school under 19 team for the “Red Bull Inter Campus/Schools tournament” in 2017 and champion team in the “Antonian Sixes” in 2017.

He scored 711 runs with 5 half centuries and claimed 18 wickets in the season 2018/2019 and he was the leading batsman of the Thurstan College in the season. He made a winning run in the Big Match after 27 years. He was the man of the match in the annual T20 big match in 2019.

He represented Old Thurstanite SC for division 2 and division 3 inter club tournament. He represented Ragama CC in the Major youth Inter club tournament in the seasons of 2019 and 2020.

Left hand batsman Yohan Liyanage scored 561 runs with two half centuries and claimed 50 wickets for 866 runs with 4 five wicket hauls as right arm off spinner in the under 19 schools Cricket season 2019/2020. He maintained 28.05 batting and 17.32 bowling average.

His best bowling performance in an innings was against Maliyadeva College Kurunegala 7 wickets for 69 runs. His best match bowling performance was 9 for 56 runs in the match against St. Thomas Matara. He claimed 5 wicket hauls against Maliyadeva Kurunegala (7/69), St. Servatius Matara (6/39), St. Thomas Matara (5/17) and Maris Stella Negombo (5/33). He showed best all-round performance against Maliyadeva Kurunegala. He scored 34 runs and 43 runs and claimed 7 for 69 runs.

He is grateful to principals of both schools President’s Kotte and Thurstan Colombo, Master in charges of President College, Leslie Harischandra master in charge Thurstan, Fazie Anass his academy first coach, Susil Ananda school first coach, Thamara Aberathne and Saman Hewavitharana senior coaches in Thurstan, staff members of academic and non academic staff both schools, OBA, district and provincial coaches his team-mates, their parents, his father, mother and his family members for all the support extended to him
