St. Anthony’s Girls School cricket champions

The St. Anthonys’ Girls School Champion Cricket team.

St.Anthonys’ Girls School of Katugastota is one of the best Schools for hard Ball as well as soft ball cricket in the Central Province. The Cricket team of the School won the Zonal Soft Ball Championship consecutively for Six years since 2014 and Provincial Cricket Championship for Five years since 2014 except the year 2015 in which they became runners-up.

In Hard Ball Cricket they entered the Division II Girls Schools Hard ball Cricket Tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association in the year 2015 without success but the following Season (2017/2018) the Hard ball team of the School did much better and ended up as third in the tournament. In this particular tournament, Sanduni Nisansala of St. Anthonys Cricket team scored a century against Wijayapala Vidyalaya, Okkampitiya. Sathya Dissanayake of the same School scored two half centuries against Wadduwa Central and Ratnamali Balika, Gampaha. After that they played two Big matches against Nugawela Central College and both these big matches were won by St.Anthonys’ Girls School and the team was guided by the veteran Coach Susantha Basnayake, former Antonian Cricketer and level II Cricket Coach. His intention is to build up this girls team to become all Island Schools hard ball Champions. The Teachers-in-charge of the team are Wasanthi Jinadasa & lakmini Amarasinghe.
