Sanjeewa Jayasinghe was a talented ruggerite who hit the top and became one of the game’s finest wingers It was in the year 2002 that he came over to Kandy to represent the champion Kandy Sports club team He was attached to a bank in Kandy.He played a major role in the success of the club with his dazzling runs which thrilled the crowds.

In 2005 he was selected to lead Kandy Sports Club and led with great success to win both the Caltex League and Caltex Clifford Cup knock out tournaments.

Sanjeewa Jayasinghe has been an automatic choice for the game of rugby; .

He was virtually an unknown quantity but some excellent performances brought him into focus. One year of school rugby and into the national team is something very few could achieve.

It was in 1998 the year he cut his teeth in rugby. He has devoted 13 years of his life to rugby. He has led Sri Lanka in both versions of the game. The best moment in his rugby career was when he scored a try against All Blacks at Dubai Sevens in 2001..

He was a legendary ruggerite, who played for Havelock Sports Club , Kandy Sports Club and Sri Lanka. He is a product of Science College, Mount Lavinia where he excelled as a cricketer and also in athletics and played one year of rugby for school in 1998. In school he made his mark as a sprinter especially in 100 metres and 200 metres, a talent which he made use of as a winger in the field of rugby with his sudden burst of speed and dazzling runs. In 1998 itself Havelock Sports Club spotted his talent and invited him for practices, where Ana Saranapala, Chaminda Rupasinghe and Kolitha Gunatilleke gave him all the encouragement. He hit the high spot in1998 when he was selected for Sri Lanka.

He was rewarded in the year 2001 when he was asked to lead Havelock Sports Club, when he was just 22 years old -one of the youngest to captain the Park Club. In 2008 made Kandy SC proud by scoring a record of 45 tries which works out to 225 points, with his fast running. He was a dare devil tackler and a fine team player, that is how he achieved this scoring record. This is how the tries came in the inter club sevens he scored 17 tries - 85 points, and 28 in the league and knockout tournaments.

He was considered one of the finest rugby players to have played for his school and the two clubs HavelockSC and Kandy SC. He was one of the finest wingers to have played the sport.
