The first eleven player, left hand middle order bat, right arm medium pace bowler, all rounder, volleyball player and athlete and member of the fast bowling squad Kanda Gamaralalage Prashan Arunod Nissanka has excelled for Mahanama College, Colombo in cricket.
Arunod was admitted to the Grade one of Rajasinghe Maha Vidyalaya Ruwanwella in 2008 and he joined the school cricket academy under Thusitha Ananda and Deshan Abhishek and in the following year he was selected to the under 13 cricket team and claimed 33 wickets in six matches and in 2014 he was the captain and he bagged 14 scalps in four outings
In 2015 playing in seven matches he claimed nine wickets and scored 180 runs with two fifties and following year captaining the team he scored 242 runs with two half centuries and captured 21 wickets. With these performances under his belt he was selected to play in the Prima Cup for Kegalle District and Central Province and 2018 and 2019 he played for the under 19 team in the Big Matches against N. M. Perera Vidyalaya, Yatiyantota and he captained in 2019.
Same year he joined Mahanama College under 17 team in his first year he played in nine matches and took 13 wickets and they were the All Island under 17 champions by beating St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa and his coaches were Kelum Gangodawila and Sonal Dilshan . Their under 17 team was rewarded with a Tour of Malaysia and it was a fine exposure for them. Last season he played for the under 19 team and he was selected for the Airtel Fast Bowling Pool under 23 and finally he was selected for the final six with a bowling speed of 137kmph.
Whilst at Rajasinghe he played for the under 14 volleyball team and they were the DSI Champions in 2015 and in the under 15 tournament they were the All Island Second in the under 15 and in the next year they clinched the All Island Championship and in 2017 they won the under 17 DSI Tournament. All four years they swept the board in Divisional, Zonal, District and Provincial and they were coached by Chaminda Jayarathne and PolgampolaP.
He did athletics in the age groups of under 13, 15 and 17 and won the Divisional, Zonal, District and they came fourth in the provincial and in the under 13 and 15 he won 100, 200 metres and long jump.
