The school Games Captain, Athletics, Throw Ball and Netball Captain and Kabaddi Player Kandage Shanika Madubashani Perera brought honour and glory to her Alma Mater Taxila Central College, Horana. Shanika who hails from Bandaragama commenced her schooling from Sumanajothi Primary School Kimmanthuduwa, Bandaragama . In the year 2009 she represented her school at the Divisional Meet in under 11 age group and she was placed second in High Jump and Long Jump and from there she shifted to Maithree Navodya Vidyalaya to the Grade Six and at the Inter House Athletics Meet participating in the under 13 age group she won the high jump and long jump events and in the Divisional and Zonal meet she repeated the same performances.
In the following year she represented her school at the Divisional and Zonal Meets and she came second.
In 2013 she joined Taxila Central Horana and in 2014 she swept the board at the School, Divisional and Zonal Meets and in the Provincial Meet she was second and at the John Tarbet she gained colours. In the following two years in 2015 and 2016 participating at the under 17 age group she repeated the same performances and that year there was no Provincial Meet and she was awarded the Best Athlete Prize of the school. In the same year in the under 17 All Island Meet she came second in High Jump and competing in the senior level she came second in the John Tarbet Meet and awarded colours and in the Youth Sports Festival she came second in High Jump and in the following year too she won the first place in High Jump at the Zonal, District, Provincial and All Island and won John Tarbet colours and in the Provincial she set a new Sri Lanka Schools Record and in the same year at the School Colours Nite she was adjudged as the Best Athletic of the year.
Early this year she came first in the Youth Meet and the Divisional Secretariat Meet and she was re awarded School Colours once again. In 2018 she was appointed as the Captain of the school and at the under 18 age level she won the School, District, Provincial, John Tarbet, All Island National Youth Festival Meet and National Sports Festival Meet open event in High Jump she won the second place and again in 2019 participating in the under 20 age group she won the Zonal, District, Provincial, John Tarbet with Colours, Milo Sports Meet and All Island Third Place and at the School Colours Nite she was adjudged the Best Girl Athlete of the school and re awarded School Colours for her fine performances in High Jump.
In addition she represented her Alma Mater in Throw Ball and they were the Girl’s Champions in 2017 and 2018 and at the Provincial Meet and in 2019 they came second. In 2018 they won the second place in the Provincial and All Island and captaining the team in 2019 they were the Provincial Runners Up and she won school colours. She represented the school in Volleyball too and won colours.
Representing the school Kabaddi Team they were the Provincial Champions in 2018 and in Netball she was the Captain 2015 to 2019 and they were the Zonal Champions and presently she is in the All Island National Squad consisting of 25 players. For all these performances individually and as a team the Principal Mrs. K. M. P. K. Jayathilake, Indika Wanigarathne, Roshan Malinga, Mrs. Aruni, Kamal Sujeewa and the past pupils contributed to her success
