The inaugural Sri Lanka women’s Chess Grand Prix will commence from July 25 at the Chess Federation headquarters, Narahenpita. According to the General Secretary of South Asian Chess Council and Commonwealth Chess Association and Vice President of Asian Chess Federation Luxman Wijesuriya
after the successful 7th Sri Lanka men’s Chess Grand Prix the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka(CFSL) is expected to conduct this first women’s Grand Prix which includes 11 rounds on a round robin basis. .
This is going to be very tough competition with the strongest 12 women’s chess players expected to battle it out with each other .CFSL is the first Sports Governing body to conduct the National chess calendar
events among the sports bodies in Sri Lanka . This women’s Grand Prix will be conducted following all medical guidelines as the men’s Grand Prix whichwas won by Susal de Silva the 14 year old Nalandian . CFSL has also made arrangements to give cash awards , medals and trophies for the winners of this event after the final round on last day .
Former National chess champions women’s International master (WIM) Sachini Ranasinghe and Dinuskshi Premanath , WIM Nelunika Methmini, last year National team players Ashvini Pavalchandran, Nethmi Fernando and Tharushi Niklesha, Former National Team player Janandani Abeysinghe,
Under 12 Girls National Chess Champion - Nemindi Linaya Ramanayake,, Young stars Oneli Weerawardena, Prasansa Premanath, Sandeepani Tharushi and Sayumi are expected to compete in this inaugural event for the women’s Grand Prix Championship.
