The Sri Lankan competitors who were set to participate in the 2020 Asian Beach Games in China would continue with their regular training sessions despite the event been rescheduled for next year.
The respective National Sports Associations (NSA) which were set to participate at this Games, have been requested by the Sports Ministry to select players and to recommence National Pool training to maintain fitness.
The sixth edition of the Asian Beach Games was scheduled to be worked off from November 28 to December 5 this year in Sanya, China but was put off by the Chinese Olympic Committee following discussions with the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sri Lanka have regularly participated at the Asian Beach Games since its inception while winning two Bronze Medals on every occasion except in the 2008 event.
There will be a total of 19 disciplines at the Asian Beach Games and Sri Lanka is planning to compete in eight of these events, according to a high ranking official of the Ministry of Sports.
The Asian Beach Games is organised every four years by the OCA with the participation of over 40 member countries.
Meanwhile, the Sports Ministry has proposed that Sri Lanka takes part in beach volleyball, beach kabaddi, 3x3 basketball, aquatics (marathon swimming), aquathlon, teqball, Surfing and beach wrestling.
