The women's netball team facing against Hong Kong in the semi-finals of the 2018 Asian Netball Championships.

Sri Lanka Netball Federation is to hold interviews to select the national coach position which has been vacant for a few months due to the sudden resignation of national coach Thilaka Jinadasa. Applications were called by the Federation and it has received three applications inclusive of a male coach.

The three applicactions received are from Kilinochchi’s Ganesh Thanushan (the only male) Jaffna’s Manomani Sinnathambi and Somitha Alwis from Colombo. Ganesh’s application to contest for post of national coach is the first occasion that a male coach has applied for the post.

Though it is the first occasion the Federation has accepted his application and he will be called for the interview according to reliable sources. Somitha Alwis from Colombo is an experienced coach and also has served as the national coach for a short period and also was the Junior national coach in the past.

Manomani is the only newcomer to apply for the post. She has been promoting Netball in the Jaffna District and has produced many top-class players from the district.

When selecting the national coach the federation had to face a few problems as the resigned coach Thilaka Jinadasa was based in Brunei and the she had to be interviewed online. This time too, the federation is prepared to adopt the same produce if the two candidates from Kilinochchi and Jaffna are unable to present themselves physically for the interviews in Colombo.
