SLBA aims for Badminton Nationals by year’s end

The Sri Lanka Badminton Association President Rohan de Silva.

The Sri Lanka Badminton Association (SLBA) is hoping to conduct the National Badminton Championship by end of the year at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium according to the President of the Association Rohan de Silva. He said the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium is the ideal venue to conduct the championship with a limited number of spectators according to Health Ministry regulations.

He said that they have sought permission from the Ministry of Sports to begin training of the National Badminton Pool which was halted in March due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus. Several badminton players are undergoing training in their respective sports clubs in accordance with the regulations laid down by the Ministry of Health. He said the association is keen to start training for the National Poolists at the SLBA Indoor Stadium.

We hope to conduct the tournaments in August once we get the greenlight from the Ministries of Sports and Health. The players did not get the much needed exposure as they could not take part in the tournaments due to the Coronavirus for the last three months, but once tournaments begin they will get invaluable experience which will stand them in good stead when they take part in international tournaments, said the Badminton Chief who is doing his best to improve Sri Lanka’s badminton standard and make the country a force to be reckoned in the Asian region.
