Kavindu (200 not out) sets up a new record in Royal-Trinity series

Royal College’s left hand batsman Kavindu Madarasinghe set up a new record for the highest individual score in the 127 year old Royal-Trinity cricket series when he made 200 not out on the second day of the Royal-Trinity under 19 inter–school cricket match at the Asgiriya Stadium on Saturday.

His epic innings which came off 242 deliveries inclusive of 22 boundaries and four sixers surpassed the previous highest score of 181 not out by Royalist Sumithra Warnakulasuriya in 1981 at Reid Avenue in which he was involved in an unbroken 304 run stand for the third wicket with skipper Ajith Devasurendra (120 not out).

Kavindu was associated in a third wicket stand of 240 runs with Sri Lanka youth player Ahan Wickremasinghe (97) which helped Royal to take major honours.

Trinity 165 in 65 overs (Shane Gunailleke 38, Umair Raizan 36, Demantha Bandara 23, Geeshan Balasuriya 3 for 34, Kamil Mishara 3 for 12) and 93 for 5 wickets in 28 overs (Umair Raizan 44, Dinitha Siriwardena 29, Kavindu Pathiratne 2 for 23, Lahiru Madusanka 2 for 12).

Royal 368 for 4 wickets declared in 94.4 overs (Kavindu Madarasinghe 200 not out, Ahan Wickremasinghe 97, Dasis Manchanayake,2 2 not out, Matheesha Pathirana 2 for 48.
