Gunner Supercross on October 6

The Artillery Regiment has made all arrangements to hold the Gunner Supercross 2019, the most popular auto sport event of the country, on a grand scale on Sunday, 06th October 2019 at the Artillery Complex Minneriya. The magnificent event, organised for the 14th successive year in association with Sri Lanka Auto-sports Drivers Association (SLADA), will unfold on the gravel track, uniquely constructed conjoining the nature and pride of historical kingdom of Polonnaruwa, promising an aura of excitement combined with the spills and thrills of motor sports similar to thirteen events previously conducted that proved roaring successes.

This event was first introduced in the year 2004 under the stewardship of Major General Sunil Tennakoon, the former Colonel Commandant of the Artillery Regiment. The event was generating much needed funds for numerous projects undertaken with the aim of improving welfare of serving soldiers, disabled, and the dependents of those who sacrificed their lives on behalf of the motherland during the conflict in Sri Lanka.

The 13 th Gunner Supercross was concluded on 29th July 2018 amidst a large gathering of spectators from all over the country . Over 120 competitors including Aravinda Premadasa, Ashan De Silva, Ushan Perera, Kushan Peiris, Janaka Dias, Ishan Dasanayake, Evon B Gurusinghe, Sameeera Premarathne, and Gayan Sandaruwan showed their prowess in motor racing. The forthcoming event will be organised by the C olonel Commandant, Commander artillery Brigade, Centre Commandant, Commanding Officers together with all officers and other ranks with the technical expertise of the SLADA

The funds accumulated from previous events were utilized for welfare of all members of Artillery Regiment by accomplishing projects such as construction of houses for needy members of the Gunner family, development of infrastructure in artillery camp premises and providing scholarships and other assistance for students of under privilege and numerous other projects benefiting the soldiers and their families. social welfare projects were carried out after each event such as construction of a swimming pool with the access for students and general public in the region, awarding of scholarships and computes to selected children who excelled in education and improving infrastructure in selected schools in way of providing and establishing sanitary and water purification systems extending the benevolent of the event to the people of Polonnaruwa. Region.

Singer Sri Lanka PLC as the Main Sponsor and ICAN Advertising Holdings (Pvt) Limited, Access Engineering PLC, CEAT Kelnai International Tyres (Pvt) Ltd, Brown and Company PLC and Elephant House company joined as other key sponsors for Gunner Supercross 2019.
