T. Thanji of BRC and S.M. Thaha of MICH have booked their berths in the knock out stage of the 67th National Snooker Championships for the U.W. Sumathipala Memorial Trophy sponsored by Sumathi Group of Companies from the round robin stage which began on Friday.
Thanji was in terrific form sweeping past M. Farhan, Losaka Perera and M. Sheriffdeen without conceding a frame to top group B.
Thaha had a tough opening encounter against All Island champion Riyaz Noor of Moors SC winning 4-3, one of the few matches which went to the wire. Thaha topped group G winning all his three matches.
Army cueists Susantha Wickrama and M.M. Mubeen will vie for the top position in group F.
The round robin matches will conclude today with the group winners and runners-up advancing to the last 16 round.
