Our objective is to get Sri Lanka cricket back on track - Dharmadasa

Former vice president and SLC presidential candidate Jayantha Dharmadasa said that they had a well qualified team and their objective was to get Sri Lanka cricket back on track from the depths it has fallen to.

He made this statement at a special press conference held at the newly built Nawaloka Auditorium yesterday.

“I agreed to join the Sumathipala group to do the right thing for cricket but within two months I realized they were going on the wrong track and there was corruption taking place. As soon as I realized that I decided to resign from my post,” said Dharmadasa.

“I tried to resign on two occasions and finally after eight months I succeeded. They did not want to see me resign and did not even table my letter. We are today labeled as the most corrupt cricket administration in the world and we want to very soon change that thinking,” he said.

“When I was with the Sumathipala camp there were no objections against me but after I resigned and became their opponent they have tried to use all allegations against me especially my qualification to run for the SLC presidency.”

Nishantha Ranatunga who is expected to contest the secretary’s post said that they can win the elections as they have a good team of people with them like Minister Arjuna Ranatunga and K Mathivanan who are vying for the vice presidents posts, Eastman Narangoda (treasurer), Hirantha Perera (assistant secretary), and Dr Sanjaya Senarath (assistant treasurer).
