Lankan mission to hold first SL-Aus Test in Canberra

A ceremonial cricket match between Sri Lanka and Australia will be held in Canberra, Australia from February 1 to 5 marking Sri Lanka’s Independence Day 2019.

The cricket match at Manuka Oval in Canberra, is the first-ever Test Cricket Match in Australian Capital Territory (ACT) – Canberra, according to Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Australia Somasundaram Skandakumar.

“It will be a competitive as well as a ceremonial event for both countries and will invoke considerable interest among cricket fans,” High Commissioner Skandakumar told the Daily News at the Sri Lankan High Commission in Canberra.

Australia-Sri Lanka relations are marked by the love for sports, especially cricket which is adored in both countries, the High Commissioner said, marking Australia Day which fell on Saturday.

In addition, Adventure Race World Championship 2019 – Sri Lanka has now been announced.

This event will take place in Sri Lanka from December 3 – 13 and the Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra was instrumental in initiating it.

This popular world event was inaugurated in 2001 and been held annually in various parts of the world. This year is the first time it will be staged in Asia.
