Sri Lanka’s batting coach Jon Lewis has requested leave from Sri Lanka Cricket to attend a family matter. Accordingly, Lewis will not be with the national team, during the second Test match vs Australia starting at Canberra on Friday.
He will however join the team before the commencement of matches for the upcoming South African tour.
SLC GOES BACK TO CONSTITUTION ON TEAM SELECTIONS
Sri Lanka Cricket announced that the team selection; while the team is on tour shall be made by a committee comprising the Team Manager and captain in consultation with the national selection committee. The majority decision of the Manager; Captain and members of the Selection Committee shall prevail on any selection made thereof. This decision was taken under the instructions of the Ministry of Sports in consideration of the need to form an effective and transparent selection mechanism; whilst the team is on tour. The directive comes into force with immediate effect.
Prior to this announcement the head coach Chandika Hathurusingha had full powers to select the team being a member of the selection committee whereas there was no provision for such a move in the SLC constitution.
SPORTS MINISTER CALLS FOR
FORENSIC AUDIT ON SLC
Minister of Sports Harin Fernando has requested the SLC competent authority and secretary of the Sport Ministry Chulananda Perera to carry out a Forensic Audit, from 1st January 2016 to 31 December 2018 on Sri Lanka Cricket. The report is to be submitted within a period of two weeks from the date hereof.
Sri Lanka Cricket elections are scheduled to be held on 21 February. SLC has been under a Competent Authority since May 31, 2018, after the Court of Appeal suspended the previous board on the grounds that they scorned with election protocols.
