Shop rent hike inconveniences traders

Traders on the first floor of the Hambantota bus stand building say that the Hambantota Urban Council has raised the shop rent by three folds suddenly.

There are 16 shops on the first floor of the bus stand building and each trader had to pay Rs. 100,000 as key money to obtain a shop on rent in 2001.

The shop rent then was Rs. 1,930. The traders said they are having a low volume of sales here and they cannot afford to pay such a high shop rent.
