Then he went on to represent the Sri Lanka Schools rugby team and captained the outstation schools team as well. He had the honour of representing and captaining his club team CR & FC in 1987. He played for Sri Lanka national rugby team from 1982 and later functioned as the team manager. He was the past CR & FC rugby Chairman cum club president as well.
Speaking to Daily News Chris Jordashe said “I believe it came naturally to me living next to Peterson playgrounds surrounded by top school, club and national players of repute. We indulged in many sports like cricket, badminton, table tennis, football, athletics but rugby became my favourite sport. Probably that is how my journey into the world of sports started".
“There are many people who have supported me, especially my family as both my elder brothers Theodore and David were rugby players too. My father was a club cricketer in his days and college Stubbs Shield boxer but never interfered in our careers but always supported us. Hence I’m always grateful to all of them“.
"I chose this sport rugby because;I thought I had the build, speed, strength, stamina, skills and decent hand eye coordination to play the game".
“But at this stage for me my priority is to stay humble, simple and look at means and ways to uplift the downtrodden and people in need”. I continue to strive and do whatever possible in my own way.
"It’s easy to be a rugby player, but need discipline to be a good player; let it be collective team training, eating habits, individual training and a good rest for sure is needed or it will mentally drain you and shift your focus ".
“I love Sri Lanka and visiting the cool chimes of the up country, scenic places, tea plantations and in the deep south Sinharaja forest, wild parks those are my favourite holiday destinations”.
“In school at S.Thomas’ College, when we won the centenary rugby tournament under my captain Shane Pinder against a star studded Royal side, where I scored the match winning try by going through the entire Royal three quarter line through an timely interception at Longden Place and also winning the Clifford Cup for CR & FC against the league champions Police team under my captaincy in 1987 again at Longden Place, after a lapse of 16 years will always be in my memory right throughout my life as the most unforgettable incidents to date”.
“I spend my leisure time watching International sports, mainly rugby, cricket, athletics, tennis, boxing movies and of course TV that inspires me“.
“My greatest accomplishment is in sports I would say playing and captaining a prestigious club (CR & FC) wearing the Sri Lanka national jersey and in general contributing to whatever it was in coaching, being a national manager, council member or club president where I had the personal satisfaction of seeing that institution rise to the occasion under my leadership”.
"It was really difficult to single out one best compliment that I got, but the common regular comment is when people ask me what I do to look younger and still remain in shape, which is by the grace of God definitely “.
“I'm not happy with what I have achieved so far, not all, as I got many milestones to achieve as life is a learning curve and we learn by our failures and mistakes. I truly want to be a testimony of that by achieving what I think I need to achieve in the next few years".
"Growing up I always admired Jonah Lomu, Serge Blanco and David Campese during their best years. However in today’s context we will get a cross section of international players from many countries that are super talented too. ".
“I will never compare myself to anyone but I admire many people who have achieved success from humble beginnings through their own perseverance and have good work, honesty, proper work ethics.
‘We need to strive for what we believe in and work towards achieving that goal but at times when we fall back, never give up but keep trying to achieve your dreams, even if people laugh at you or put you down. We need to make things happen and not be complacent".
"My most embarrassing moment on the rugby field that I will never forget was when I remember my shorts were torn off virtually in a Forces game but luckily the referee stopped play due to an infringement and my players covered around me until I found another spare short".
"In life the Covid 19 pandemic has taught me basically in difficult times or if you’re self employed, it's a matter of survival as a lockdown has its advantages and disadvantages. However as a person I never feared this pandemic for sure but used my extra time to learn what I required to further shape my life to be a better person in God's eyes".
"I wanted to be a Doctor when I grew up, but did not have the science stream qualifications but opted to be a broker and auctioneer as my first job in a blue chip company John Keells initially".
"The kind of legacy I want to be remembered for is touching people's lives in many ways and if I could make an impact to better their lives ". On a concluding note Christo said that he likes to describe himself as a very quiet, trustworthy, patient, forthright and loyal person in life”.
