Samitha Dulan wins Bronze in javelin throw F64 event

Sri Lankan javelin thrower Samitha Dulan won the Bronze Medal with a personal best of 65.61m while competing in the F64 event at the 16th Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan yesterday.

The 30-year-old Corporal of Sri Lanka Military Police was making his maiden appearance at the Paralympics following his fourth place finish at the World Para Meet in 2019.

In fact, Dulan was in contention for the Silver Medal at one stage until the sixth attempt before Australian Michal Burian cleared a personal best of 66.29m to ensure the second place.

However, Dulan was able to improve on his personal best on three occasions during his six attempts.

India’s Sumit Antil finished with a world record of 68.55m to claim the Gold Medal in this event.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Sampath Hettiarachchi, who also took part in this event finished in ninth place with a performance of 49.94m.
