Christopher Anderson excellent ruggerite and basketball player

A natural player, former St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota rugby player Christopher Anderson, popularly known as Andy was one of a select group of players to have done well in rugby during his playing days. A towering second-row forward Christopher Anderson was not only an outstanding line out expert and great ball player, but also a formidable tackler. He Represented St. Anthony’s college in 1971 captained by Steve de Silva and in 1972 underTuan Dole. This forward had an illustrious career and left an indelible mark in the history of school rugby.

Christopher Anderson represented the Sri Lanka combined schools team in 1972 led by the late Jeffery de Jong and gave his best. He won the “Antonian Eagle” for Rugby in 1972. Then in the same year represented SLRFU President’s fifteen against the Nchanga RFC, Zambia team in 1972 under the captaincy of Y.C Chang and was one of the two schoolboys to represent the team.

After school he played for KRFC Kandy Rugby Football Club and Kandy Sports Club captained by Jeremy Pereira and late Izwan Omar in 1974 and 1975. Then in 1976 joined the Police and played till 1980 under the leadership of R P Linton (1976) Juragan Savanghan (1977) RM Lafir (1978) Charles Wijewardena(1979) and Nimal Lewke(1980). For his good work he was awarded the Police Rugby colours in 1977.

He was also a fine basketball player, played for St. Anthony’s College basketball team in 1971 and 1972 and also got the opportunity to captain the side. He represented the Sri Lanka schools team in 1971 and won colours for basketball in 1971.

He was a fine athlete at school level and was champion athlete in all age also Champion athlete at the Central Province athletic meet in 1972 coming first in the High jump, Long jump and second in the Triple jump., which helped him to win college colours for athletics in 1972.

Then in 1972 was adjudged the best all round sportsman of St. Anthony’s College and he is one of the very few double “Eagle” winners of St. Anthony’s College.
