Sebastianite Navishka wins a silver medal

Seventeen year old Weerakoon Mudiyanselage Navishka Sandeesh of St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa brought honour and glory to his motherland and to his alma-mater in general when he won a Silver Medal in the 400 metres and another Silver Medal at the 400 metres Medley relay in the Third Asian Youth Athletic Championship 2019 held in Hong Kong.

In the Medley Relay event Navishka did the final lap while the first lap done by Peterite Hirusha Hashen and the second lap by Chilaw Marian Shemal Milinda while the third lap was done by Isuru Kaushalya of Ananda Sasthralaya, Matugama. He clocked 48.2 seconds in the 400 metres which is the season’s best and in the Medley relay Event they clocked 1 minutes and 55 second.

Navishka joined St. Sebastian’s College in 2015 to the grade seven. Same year taking part in the Schools Annual Athletic Sports Meet he came second in 200 and third in 300 metres events. In the same year he came under his present coach Jayasanka Fernando. In 2016 at the School’s Sports Meet he came first in 200 and 400 metres and was third in 100 metres and became the under 16 Champion. In 2018 and 2019 he became the Under 16 and Under 18 Champion respectively. At the Western Province Group Meet in 2017 he came second in 400 and 300 metres and in the John Tarbet Athletic Meet he was third in the 400 and 400 meters hurdles events and in the same year in the All Island Athletic Meet he came third in 400 metes Last year taking part in the Junior Nationals in higher age group he came third in the 400 metres.
