Isiri Meegammana, a Grade 12 student of Mahamaya Girls School,Kandy is a talented Girls’ Cricketer, Netball player and Athlete. In Cricket she is leading the School team for the third successive year and she led the team at the all Island Div.isionTwo Cricket tournament in the year 2019 when she was Fifteen years old.

Isiri is a medium pace bowler and a right hand middle order batswoman and her talent was spotted by the writer who is in the Cricket coaching field since 1965 . She started her Cricket career at the age of 12 years and she was selected to the School team At a Cricket match against Gothami Balika Vidyalaya,Kandy she claimed 3 wickets for 25 at the Cricket tournament in the second year. She scored 30 runs against St.Anthony’s Girls School, Katugastota in the Semi finals at this tournament conducted by the Department. of Education in the year 2017. At a cricket match against Dehiattakandiya Central College, she scored 35 runs and bagged 3 wickets for 28 runs in the same year. At the All Island Division Two Cricket tournament Isiri took a step forward when she bagged 4 wickets for 30 runs against Palinks Cricket Club,Colombo but her outstanding bowling feat did not bring the victory she expected. In 2018 she repeated her performance by claiming 5 wickets for 35 runs in the return match with Palinks which helped the team to defeat them in this match after which she was adjudged the Best Bowler in their Cricket team. Isiri led her team to be the Best Eight teams at the Division two cricket tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools cricket Association and in the following year due to unavoidable circumstances Mahamaya did not enter the tournament. Isiri was selected to the Kandy District Women’s Cricket Squad under the coaching of Amila Pinnaduwa, the Provincial Cricket Coach.

Her talent is not limited only to Cricket, she has been playing Netball since 2015 to date and she was in the School Netball team from Under 13 onwards. In 2017 the Netball team became the Runners-up at the Provincial Netball tournament organized by the Dept.of Education and her Netball coaches were Indu Ranasinghe Thisali Jayapala and Thaksila Chandrasekera. She is also an Athlete who won 50, 100 and 400 metres Races and Long Jump and High Jump events at School in different age groups from 8 years to 15 years. Her intention is to do well in Studies and improve her sports abilities further. She is thankful to her coaches as well as the Principal and the Staff of the School.
