Sri Lanka Cricket Coach Education Unit has trained former National Players to conduct the Level Two Coaching Courses and the first Course was held on the 20th to 24th April,2021 at Sinhalese Sports Club and the main task of the Coach Education unit was ‘train to train’ concept and this course is currently being conducted and managed by Heshan de Mel(Head Coach Education) and Tharaka Samaratunge(High Performance Coach Educator).
The former Test Cricketers who were involved were: Rangana Herath(Spin Bowling) Nuwan Kulasekera (Fast Bowling) Chamara Kapugedara (Fielding) Saman Jayantha(Batting)
The Coaches from Provincial and Districts were: Sujeewa Gunaratne and Amila Pinnaduwa and Two Coaches from Premier Clubs,Shanuka Dissanayake and Nuwan Shiroman were also involved.
The Coach Education Unit rolled out the Level 2 Coaching courses in 2012 with a Syllabus that has been reviewed by the ICC and the Coach Education Unit has been conducting this Programme on an annual basis. They have now promoted old participants of the course and external Coaches to manage this coaching course for the benefit of everyone and this practice allows the exchanging of Ideas,knowledge and information and enhances the interaction between the Key figures of Sri lanka Cricket as they are constantly involving former national Players as well to add weight to the programme.
Current and future participants of the Course are taught the fundamentals in an extra level of expertise as they believe that this has to be an effective method of enhancing the panel’s Coaching methods and techniques to enhance the skills of their coaching system. A maximum of 20 participants will be allowed to sit per
Course from the Western, North Western, Eastern, Southern, North Central and Nothern Provinces. A highlight could be seen with the most recent course conducted having two tamil coaches from Jaffna and they encourage diversity in the Coaching system.
