Power reappointed as India Women Head Coach

Ramesh Powar

The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) has decided to appoint Ramesh Powar for a second stint as Head Coach of India Women ahead of their Test and limited-overs tour of England.

The BCCI received over 35 applications for the role, after which the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee – comprising Sulakshana Naik, Madan Lal, and Rudra Pratap Singh – interviewed the applicants and unanimously agreed on reappointing Powar.

Powar, who played for India in 33 Men’s international matches in the 2000s, had a previous stint as coach of India Women in an interim capacity between July and November 2018. He is an ECB Level-2 certified coach and has also attended the BCCI-NCA Level-2 coaching course.

In his first spell in the role, India reached the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2018, and won 14 T20 matches in a row.

Powar will now take charge of the side ahead of the tour of England, comprising one Test, beginning on June 16, followed by three ODIs and as many T20Is. (ICC)
