Karate Black Belt Second Dan, Sri Lanka Karate National poolist, athlete and gymnast Peduru Kankanamage Nikini Sandaleka has brought honour and fame to her Alma Mater Dankotuwa Balika Vidyalaya. Nikini was born on 13th August 2000 and was admitted to her present school in 2006 and from the inception Nikini showed an interest in sports and when she was in Grade Two she took part at the School Primary Sports Meet and won places for 50 and 75 metre races and later she did 100 and 200 metres and High Jump and swept the board but in the Divisional Meet she could not perform well. When she came to the senior section too she continued up to Grade 13 and her events were 100 and 400 metres, Long Jump and High Jump and her relay team came first in the Divisional meet

In the mean time her parents Shantha Seneviratne and Geetha Priyani Dilrukshi noticed that their daughter is not much interested in athletics and they pushed her to commence Karate and she began to take part in karate in 2010 and came under Asela Sumith Lasantha. Her first attempt was the Puttalam District Karate Do Meet and won a Gold Medal for Kumite and a Silver Medal for Kata and in the same year at the Provincial Meet she came second in Kumite and Kata and in 2011 she won Golds for Kata and Kumite at the District Meet and in the All Island National Schools Championship her school were among the Best Eight schools and at the 4th UKF International Karate and Kobudo Championship she won a Gold for Kata and a Bronze for Kumite and in the Puttalam DIstrict Meet she was second in Kata and first in Kumite and going further at the NWP Meet she won a Gold for Kata and a Silver for Kumite.
In 2015 at the Nihon Shotokan Karate Do Federation National Meet held at Karandeniya she was second in Kata and Kumite. Same year at the District Meet she won Golds for Kata and Kumite and in the NWP Meet she came first in Kata and second in Kumite and in the following year at the Nihon Karate National Meet she won Golds for both these events and in the All Island Federation Karate Meet she was first in Kumite and third in Kata and at the NWP School Games Meet in the team event her school were the runners up in Kata and Kumite and in the NWP Meet she won her both events and in 2017 at the District meet she was first in Kumite and second in Kata
In 2018 at the NWP School Games she was second in Kumite and third in Kata and in the same year at the District Meet she won Golds in Kumite and Kata and in the All Island Karate Federation Schools Meet her school came up to Best Eight among the under 20 age group and in the NWP team event they came first in Kumite and in 2019 at the Puttalam District Meet she came first in Kumite and second in Kata. and at the NWP Meet she won a Gold for Kumite and a Bronze for the Kata and in the Karate Friends Federation Open Championship Meet she grabbed Golds for Kumite and Kata and at the All Island National Schools Festival Meet held at Madampe she won Silvers for both her events and at the NWP Meet she was third in Kumite and at the NWP Schools Meet she won a Gold for Kumite and a Bronze for Kata and in the All Island school Games held in 2019 her team won a Bronze and in Sri Lanka Karate Do Championship under 18 age group she came second in Kumite and at the 2020 National Sports Festival Puttalam District Meet she won Golds for Kumite and Kata.
In Gymnastic at the NWP Meet in 2019 in the Individual Event she came third while in the All Island under 20 age group they won the first place in the team event and her teacher in Charge were Mrs. Subashini, Mrs. Hansiak and Mrs. Ruvina. In time to time her Principals, Rev. Sisters Patrick Sovis, Bernadeth and presently Maria Gorenthi supported her to come up the ladder and she is presently following a Diploma in Sports at the International Training Institute Kurunegala and she is in the National Karate Pool. During a span of nine years of her Karate career she has won 54 medals which includes 26 Golds, 20 Silvers and eight Bronzes.
