Mahinda emerge Under-19 Tier ‘B’ champions

Spinners Navod Paranavithana and Subanu Rajapaksa took three wickets each as Mahinda College recorded a three-wicket win over Devapathiraja College, Ratgama in their Inter-School Under-19 Division One Tier ‘B’ Cricket Tournament final played at the NCC Grounds in Maitland Place yesterday.

Devapathiraja put into bat were bowled out for a paltry 99 runs in 36.5 overs.

Skipper Paranavithana finished with three wickets for eight runs in 6.5 overs which also included three maiden overs while off-spinner Rajapaksa took three for 22 in his seven over spell.

Mahinda lost their key batsman Paranavithana for eight runs and they were struggling at 52 for five wickets at one stage.

However, Kaushitha Kodituwakku (23) and Danuja Induwara (24 not out) made useful contributions to help Mahinda reach their target in 35.4 overs.

Leg-spinner Irushika Thimira was the most successful bowler with three for 22.

Mahinda: 103/7 in 35.4 overs (Kaushitha Kodituwakku 23, Danuja Induwara 24 n.o, Irushika Thimira 3/25).
