Kavishka Sandaruwan an outstanding karateka

Captain of the school under 21 Karate Team, Black Belt Third Dan Holder and Athlete Liyanage Kavishka Sandaruwan brought honour and fame to his school Wekada Maha Vidyalaya Dankotuwa. He was born on 8th October 2000 and he was admitted to his Village School Nimala Maria Vidyalaya Dummalakotuwa and his first class teacher was Mrs. Annesta.

As he was keen in Karate from his tender age his parents L. Chandrarathne and Mihiri Sudarshani Maheshika handed over their son to the school Karate Coach Asela Lasantha in 2009 and his first attempt was in 2009 at the under 10 age group Shotokan Association Do Meet and he grabbed a Gold Medal in Kumite. Then in the following year Shotokan Do Association Meet he won a Gold for Kumite and a Silver for Kata and in 2011 Karate Do Federation Meet under 12 age group he won a Gold for Kumite.

In the following year at the Federation Meet he got a Silver for Kumite and at the NWP Schools Meet Team Event they got a Gold and in 2013 Karate Do Federation Meet under 13 age group he won a Gold for Kumite and at the Federation Meet held in Seeduwa he won a Gold in Kumite and won a Gold in Kata too.

At the NWP Meet in 2014 at the Sri Lanka Karate Do under 14 team event they won a Gold for Kumite and he captained the team and in the Sri Lanka Do Federation Meet he won another Gold for Kumite and at the Friends Meet he won a Gold.

In under 15 age group in 2015 Federation Meet he won a Gold for Kata and at the NWP Meet he was second in Kumite and in the NWP Karate Do Federation Meet he came third in Kata and in the All Island Federation Meet he won a Bronze in Kata and in the NWP Inter Schools Meet captaining his school team they won a Gold for Kumite and in Federation NWP Meet under 17 age group he won a Gold for Kumite and in the Karate Federation Meet he won Golds for Kumite and Kata.

In 2017 All Island school under 19 team event won a Gold and individually too he won a Gold. In 2018 Puttalam District under 20 meet he got another Gold for Kumite and in the NWP Open Meet he got a Bronze for Kata.

Then in 2019 at the Puttalam Festival Meet under 55kgs he won a Gold for Kumite and in the under 55kgs NWP Schools Meet he won another Gold and in the Inter Schools NWP Meet under 20 too he won a Gold for Kumite and Sri Lanka International Karate Championship in the under 20 he won a Gold for Kumite and in the Individual Shotokan Karate United under 20 Championship he won a Gold for Kumite.

In addition to Karate he did Long Jump and Triple Jump at the 2018 School Inter House Meet and came third and second respectively. In this context his coach Asela Lasantha, POG Saman Bandara and Principal Mr. Wasantha extended their fullest support to him to come up the ladder. During his Karate career he has won 38 Medals which includes 31 Golds, 3 Silvers and 4 Bronzes.
