Hampshire sign de Grandhomme for T20 Blast

Colin de Grandhomme

Hampshire have acquired the services of Colin de Grandhomme for the 2021 T20 Blast season. It is understood that the New Zealand all-rounder is likely to be available for the business end of the tournament.

De Grandhomme has been battling an ankle issue which has kept him out of international cricket for more than a year now and it also saw him miss the home series against West Indies, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Australia in 2020-21.

But the 34-year-old featured in domestic tournaments - Ford Trophy and Super Smash - albeit played as a specialist batsman.

The explosive all-rounder returned to training last month post the completion of his surgery to his right ankle and is in the reckoning for a Test recall for the two Tests against England next month and the subsequent World Test Championship final from June 18-22.

It is believed that de Grandhomme will link up with the Hampshire squad after the WTC final and is expected to be available for the business end of the competition, starting with the clash against Somerset on June 25.

However, there isn't any confirmation over his availability for the full tournament since there is a five-week window after the final league game.

He last played for New Zealand in March 2020 against India and his last stint in the T20 blast was with Birmingham Bears for two years in 2017 and 2018.
