Dilshi flops in Women’s 800m event

Two outstanding athletes Dilshi Kumarasinghe and Gayanthika Abeyratne failed to complete their event at the 99th National Athletics Championships worked off at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday.

Both elite athletes were set to dominate the Women’s 800m final. But Kumarasinghe, who set a national record of 2.02.52s at the recent trials, could not even complete the event due to an injury.

Meanwhile, the experienced Abeyratne of Navy SC did not take the starting orders and pulled out from the Women’s 800m event with a leg injury. (D.R)
