Dedication is important to move forward, says Malinga

Sri Lanka T20 Captain Lasith Malinga commended the performance of Mahinda College Cricket Team after they won the Inter- Schools Under-19 Tier ‘B’ title on Sunday.

“I saw the quality of the game during this tournament. I saw how the Mahinda bowlers had improved and the batsmen did their part well except in the final”, Malinga said after game.

“When one team gets out to a low score the opponents tend to play in a much relaxed manner and that’s what happened in this final,” he said.

“I am very happy the bowlers did their best and they were able to get 3-4 early wickets during the first 10 overs. This is the first time Mahinda emerged champions and when I played for Mahinda we couldn’t achieve this.”

“When you play the two-day game you have to practice more in all three departments batting, bowling and fielding. Now you have to target your Big Match.”

“You have to make your game plan for the two day game. You have to get 20 wickets to win the game. The batsmen also have a responsibility.”

“When you look at the batting style of Steve Smith and Virat Kohli they play with minimum dot balls. That is their style but I never say you have to follow that style but you have to create your own style.”

“But your dedication is more important to move forward. You can enjoy cricket and forget all mistakes but you should tried to correct them in the future,” he added.
